Top 10 Tips on going to the Theater or Opera
Going to the theater is a completely different experience. It is so full of culture and it just makes me feel completely different. It is an experience which everyone should enjoy. Here are some tips to help you enjoy your theater experience:
- Buy your tickets way in advance so you can find good tickets at an affordable price. You can find tickets for a great price online. You want to make sure that you are seated in a good part of the theater where you will enjoy the view.
- If you are going to the theater or opera for the first time and are not acquainted with the normal seating in a theater then it is a good idea to buy the tickets from the box office or where you an see the seating chart. The most expensive seats are not necessarily the best seats in the house. If you pick cheaper tickets and invest in a pair of opera glasses you can still a front row experience. Opera glasses bring the view to a front row.
- If you are not familiar with the story or plot it is a good idea to do a little research about the opera or play so you can follow along easily.
- Plan to arrive early so you can be seated before the show starts. Lots of theaters will not let you enter once the performance has started and you have to wait until they have a break to let people in. It is also rude and annoying to the other patrons to have people arriving late. The tickets are so expensive so it would be a shame to arrive late and not to be let in.
- Once you have sat down make sure your cell phones are turned off and not on vibrate. The ringing of the phone can not only disturb others but also the actors and performers.
- Take time to go through the program once you have settled down in your seat to acquaint yourself with the performers and the story or plot.
- Make sure you take a walk during the interval so you can stretch your legs and get some circulation going after sitting for so long.
- Bring along a pair of opera glasses so you can enjoy the show whether you have front row seating or not. Opera glasses bring you right up to the stage and don’t allow you to miss a single emotion or action.
- Don’t talk during the performance as it rude and it disturbs those around you.
- If you bring children to the show make sure it is appropriate for them where they will understand. What I like to do is to tell my kids the story if it is something they are not familiar with so they can follow the story and the performance and I don’t have to keep explaining it to them
